Great News on the Speech front

Not sure if I mentioned this, but Sevi's words have doubled to almost tripled over the past two to three weeks. Well, we had a bunch of issues trying to get ECI out here. There's not ours. But I forgive them after today. They finally made it out here today. 5 weeks later. So I almost cancelled this appt. But it is free and couldn't hurt for them to just check. Sevi is speaking on a 12 to 15 month level. She is 16 months. This is much better then where she was a month and a half ago when Callier evaluated her. We have been working extra hard on her speech, so I like to think this jump is due to us. But it could just be a normal development for her. It also fits in line with what Callier suspected. That she had some hearing issues that may have been cause by fluid on the ears and that she has since grown out of that which is why she finally passed her hearing tests. And if that is the case, it would make sense as to why her speech is now coming together. She can hear now and is learning it. So, to make a long story short. ECI will only do therapy with her if she were 3 months behind, but she is only about a month+ behind now. So as long as she continues this way, they are not concerned at all. And again, this is the Expressive Language Delay. She understands everything we say to her, but she can't express herself well. So here is where I really have to chuckle. They evaluate her on several learning skills. They spent an hour with her here at the house and watched her play and interact. Here is where she falls... Cognative Skills - 22 month range Social-emotional Skills - 19 month range Physical Development - 26 month range (LOL go figure) Adaptive Behavior - 17 month range Language Comprehension - 18-21 month range Language Expression - 12-15 month range So all in all this is great news. Her speech is quickly catching up to where it should be and as long as we keep working with her like we have, she should be talking in sentences in no time and she won't need speech therapy. So now I know why I have not been able to keep her out of trouble. I have been baby proofing for a 15 month old, not a 26 month old.
