Now Bacterial Meningitis

I am tired and really should be sleeping. But I wanted to post this before I forget details.
This morning Keira and I were awakened to a transporter to take Keira down to x-rays. We were not expecting this. And right behind him was the Lab people to take her blood for some more tests. Not the way to wake a 6 week old.

We had a rough night as it was with her temp spiking again and her just being irritable. It continued into the morning. So they took her blood and down we went for an x-ray. Apparently they were checking to see if the Barium was still in her system.

Back up to the room and we get a great nurse, Shana, who is very informative and just makes us more comfortable on what to expect and all the different possibilities. She told us more then anyone else so far.

About 11:00 AM she came in to inform us that Keira's LP (spinal tap test) came back with preliminaries of it being Bacterial Meningitis. This is not good. Not good at all. That is a very dangerous disease. It can cause many physical problems and be fatal. I also means a 10 day to 3 week stay in the hospital if everything goes according to plan.
Due to lack of sleep, I just can't handle this new news. I needed a break. So I left Keira with DH and went to Target for new clothes. We now know we will be staying another night for sure and I had already been puked and peed on in the clothes I was in for the third day. So a little retail therapy was in order.
While I was gone, Keira was taking a nap. She started to have these spasms that were waking her up. She has had them before and we had chalked it up to newborn nervous system twitches. But DH was concerned with everything else going on that he called the nurse to come see. She thinks it is reflux. So they set her bed all up with new stuff to help with reflux. I return just in time for the Surgeon to come in with an update. While he is here, we explained the possible reflux and he agrees. So he prescribes her some Zantac twice a day.
So the new plan for the day is to up her antibiotics to twice a day now for the bacterial meningitis. Then they are going to take Keira in for another x-ray at 6:00 to check if she still has the Barium in her system. There still is even after three BMs of it. So they will do another x-ray in the AM. All the Barium has to be out before they can do the CT they want to do for her Abdomen.
Then to top things off, we got to talking with the great nurse Shana and the subject of delivery came up and the fact that I had Strep B. Apparently this is a big deal my I need to let my doc know this. My question is, why didn't my doc ask this. So I did some research and it appears Strep B CAN give a baby late on-set Group B Strep Meningitis. Grrrrr.

So here I am, hunting everything I can find on the Internet. DH has gone home and Keira is asleep. I am holding out hope that this could still just be viral. But my hunch now says it is in fact Bacterial from the Strep B. But we will have a final answer first thing in the AM.

So now I must go to sleep. They will be back in here for something soon, I am sure. We will get the final Meningitis results first thing in the AM and then do the x-rays.

If you have made it this far, keep us in your thoughts. I think we are about to embark on a very rough long road. And Keira needs all the prayers for a quick recovery. I have not liked what I have read on-line about hearing loss and other physical problems from this disease. Night.
