Saturday Morning Keira Update
I am a little frustrated this morning. We have seen both the Ped and the Surgeon and they say the opposite things. Just when I am getting use to one possible diagnosis, the other comes in and disagrees. Ugh. Anyway, just little vent.
OK, so according to the Ped...She still has a "fever". since she had a 100.8 within the past 24 hours. Even though all the others have been under 100.
She also was talking that since the culture is only growing in the "broth" then she is pretty sure it is just Viral Meningitis. I told her about the Strep B and she agreed that if this is Bacterial, that is very likely the cause, but she doesn't think it is. Great. Woohoo, right? Wrong.
OK, so according to the Surgeon...She no longer has a fever.
He is still confident she doesn't need surgery. But we are still doing the CT today. They just took her x-ray to check for any more Barium in her system. She has been a pooping machine this morning, so hopefully it is out. Luckily our surgeon is on call this weekend.
He then asked about the Meningitis. We explained how our Ped seems to think it is viral because it is only growing in the broth. He quickly disagreed with this and explained why. So we told him about the Strep B and he agreed that was probably the case.
All night last night I convinced myself it was bacterial and to prepare myself. Then the Ped says it is probably viral so DH and I get excited (as one can get over that). And then the Surgeon says it still seems to think it is Bacterial. So we are just confused and waiting waiting waiting.
She is in a lot of discomfort this morning. We are trying a heating pad and it seems to be working, she finally fell asleep on DH.
Since I am BFing, we have decided I will go home here in a bit a take a nap. DH will use a few bottles to feed her and then I will come back. I don't think I can be away from her all night. And it is not fair for DH to have to try and feed her from bottles in a hospital all night.. And I will have to wake and pump anyway. So why not wake and feed. Anyway, rambling.
So not really a good day(yet), but not a horrible day(yet) either. Just waiting on the final meningitis results and the x-ray results. The rash has gotten worse. Ped thinks it is a viral rash, surgeon thinks it is a reaction to the antibiotics. Grrr.
And then to top it off, our nurse has "suggested" that our Ped is not very good. We honestly have not liked her for awhile now and have been looking for a new one, but you get what you have when in an emergency situation like this. I wish the nurse could explain more, but I understand it is not ethical. I just hope the Ped doesn't make the wrong decision.
I will update when I can.
