Laryngomalacia

We finally got some answers to Keira's breathing problems. She was diagnosed with Mild Laryngomalacia.

Basically there is this flap above her vocal cords that is suppose to be flat but hers is curled. We actually got to see this when they did a Flexible Laryngoscopy at the ENT's office today. She should outgrow this between 12 and 18 months.

Seeing your infants vocal cords is a very strange thing. Especially when they are screaming. We even saw a few blobs of white come up which he suspects is the acid. Ick.

Reflux is a common symptom of this which explains her reflux. So she has to go back on her reflux meds. The doc wants us to keep her on the meds for one month. If the breathing does not get better by then, then they want to do a Microlaryngoscopy. This is where they would put her to sleep in the operating room and look further down her throat. Not something we want to do, so let's hope the Prevacid helps and she just outgrows the Laryngomalacia.

I am happy to have some answers and am ready to get this chapter of her life over with.
