Pneumonia

Poor poor Keira. She has pneumonia. She started running a fever Tuesday evening. Had it Wednesday and still had it when she woke up today. Her breathing had been getting worse. Which is really hard to tell if it is the illness with her since she has Laryngomalacia. Her breathing always sounds bad. But with the fever, I decided it would be best to just get her checked out just in case.

The Ped didn't think she would have pneumonia, but because of the noise in her chest and the fever she just wanted to be sure and do a chest X-ray. Sure enough. My poor baby has pneumonia. This is a new one for us. None of the other girls or Mom or Dad have ever had this. So she is on antibiotics, steroids and breathing treatments.

The Ped also mentioned she strongly believes Keira will have Asthma. Not sure how or why, but we will keep an eye on it.

She is sleeping now. She hasn't had any problems with sleeping. The little cough she has hasn't bothered her during her sleep. But she is a bit fussy when she is awake.

I had my first PTA meeting tonight. Interesting. This is all new to me. I have a lot to learn. I am excited to help and be a part of Julia's school a little more. I am hoping to be their Communications Chair. Run the website and the newsletter.

Speaking of Julia and school, she was tested last week for the Dual Language program. I am excited and nervous at the same time. She has no idea what the "meeting" was for. I didn't want her to understand too much in case she is not chosen, but I will be very excited if she is. I think this is a great program and she will benefit from it. Being able to speak two languages fluently will be such a help in the world today. Especially here in Texas and back home in CA where Spanish is very widely spoken. We find out around the 15th.

I just can't believe my big girl starts Kindergarten next fall. It is happening all to soon. Heck, I am not ready for her to turn 5 next week. Eek. Now I know what my Mama was talking about when she said "Life just passes you by". Or when she would tell me to stop growing up. LOL

Poor Keira! Don't you wish you could give her a kiss and make her all better?!?

I hope Julia gets in to the Dual Language program! I'm so glad your mama persuasion got her a testing opportunity

I didn't realize they had dual language in Murphy too, very cool.

That is the one thing I am sad about, that Faith did not start school in Canada. I would have sent her to French immersion instead of regular school. They can start with JK in French all the way through the end of high school.

Tell me more about the Dual Language program. My daughter will likely be going to the same school in a couple years. I've never heard of it. Good luck, Julia!! Poor little Kiera. I had pneumonia a few months ago, but it's got to be worse for such a little one.

Hey Jen, I am so glad you read my blog. We really need to meet up some weekend.

The Dual Language program is basically where they teach half the day in English and half the day in Spanish. You have to make the commitment to be in it all through elementary school. Not sure if by the time our kids are older if it will be in the middle and senior schools. Your child has to be "tested" or I guess assessed is a better word. They have to get in in Kindergarten. It was very poorly advertised this year, but I just spoke with the Principle last night and he assured us it will be better advertised in the following years. With this being a brand new school, everything is harder this year. Let me know if you have any specific questions. You can read more about it on the WISD website.
